This mbeat Tough Link adapter plugs straight in. Mini DisplayPort male on one end, HDMI female on the other. 15cm of nylon-braided cable between them. Gold-plated connector, aluminium body.
You get 1080p at 60Hz with uncompressed digital audio pass-through. Backward compatible down to 720p and 480p if your display is older.
Works with MacBook Air (before 2018), MacBook Pro (before 2016), iMac (before 2017), Microsoft Surface Pro, Surface Laptop, and Surface Book. Any laptop with a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt 1/2 port will do.
One heads-up: it's one-way only. Mini DP to HDMI. Not the other way around. And it won't work with Thunderbolt 3 or 4 (the USB-C shape). If your laptop has that port, you'll need a different adapter.
