You need more voltage out of a low-power source and a simple linear regulator won't cut it. The LM2577 is an adjustable switchmode boost regulator in a 5-pin TO-220 package. Feed it anything from 3.5V up to 40V and it can push output up to 50V — that's a theoretical gain of up to 10×. It's the adjustable sibling of the 12V fixed version (ZV1642), so you dial in exactly the output your project needs. You'll need a small number of external components to get it running; check the datasheet for the full circuit. Grab it from Savvy and stop waiting on a national chain's six-day shipping
