The RUT986 was built for exactly that. Telit Cat 4 modem handles global LTE so coverage isn't a postcode lottery. Four Ethernet ports, RS232, RS485, multiple I/Os, and GNSS are all on the front panel. Industrial protocols — Modbus, DNP3, OPC UA — run natively, no extra gateway hardware.
SIM or eSIM both work. eSIM bootstrap drops the carrier profile in before you even mount the unit. Zero-touch deployment means your field tech plugs it in, and RMS picks it up centrally. No RDP session from a laptop with a dodgy Wi-Fi signal at 6 pm on a Friday.
